Night Formula

Protein Power Mix Nighttime ingredients

It is important to understand that there are crucial moments within our day in which we need specific nutrients to help our bodies recuperate. For athletes in particular, it can be detrimental to one’s performance if these opportunities are missed. Therefore, we have created an easy binary supplement system to help individuals take advantage of these opportunities with minimal stress/effort. The nighttime mix is designed to enhance an individual’s natural recovery capabilities. Along with recovery, individuals can experience reduced soreness, more restful sleep, and a better athletic performance when combined with a solid nutrition regimen. The ingredients are proportioned to also help reduce nighttime hunger, leg cramping, lower back cramping, and catabolic states.

Here are the main attributes of PPM Nighttime mix:
  • Slow burning protein, to enable a nighttime anabolic state
  • All natural carbohydrate source for glycogen storage and energy restoration

  • All natural form of sugar for insulin excretion and nutrient uptake

  • Addition of strong anti-oxidant to protect against free radical damage, and assist with blood glucose levels

  • Extra form of all natural calcium to promote muscle recovery, reduce soreness, reduce cramping, and enhance bone density

  • Extra magnesium to enhance protein synthesis, reduce cramping, and reduce soreness

  • Specific amino acid to enhance recovery and joint repair

  • Potassium for electrolyte restoration

  • Natural stem cell recruiter, enhances muscle repair and muscle growth

  • Protein enzyme for digestion assistance and anti-inflammatory effects

  • Fiber for regularity and digestive assistance

Protein Power Mix Nighttime’s ingredients consist of:

Casein protein:
We used Calcium Caseinate as the protein source. It is the principal phosphoprotein found in cow’s milk. Calcium Caseinate has specific biological characteristics which enable it to be digested slowly. The slow digestive properties then facilitate a slow release of amino acids into the blood stream, thus, providing superior nitrogen retention. Casein protein can take up to three hours to be completely digested and have all amino acids present in the blood stream. Those three hours can be extended to four possibly five hours if consumed an hour before sleep. Calcium Caseinate projects positive nutritional values for fitness enthusiasts. A fitness enthusiast can use this slow release of nutrients to their advantage. The best way to use PPM Nighttime protein is an hour before bed time. As we sleep our bodies begin to rejuvenate/repair themselves without interruption. It would be a shame not to supply our bodies with the nutrients it needs to rejuvenate/repair itself properly. When we do not supply our bodies with the proper amount of nutrients, we will experience cramping, un-restful sleep, and induced muscle soreness. However, Casein protein can help reduce these symptoms when it is taken correctly. Because it is digested slowly, our bodies will have a constant supply of protein throughout the night which will promote muscle recovery, reduce soreness, and midnight hunger.

Whole grain brown rice:
As we become active our bodies utilize energy. After we are finished working out or being active our body’s energy levels are depleted. One of the first objectives we should complete after being active is to refill our depleted energy stores. Once our energy stores are refilled we instantly feel rejuvenated. However, the trick is not to refill your energy stores with a sugary supplement as this will constitute an energy crash. The most effective way to refill energy stores is to consume slow burning carbohydrates and sugars that will not create a sugar crash. PPM Nighttime uses an all natural source of carbohydrates to replenish our energy and support muscle recuperation. Unlike other proteins supplements that use processed forms of maltodextrin as their carbohydrate source, we use good old fashion brown rice. Since brown rice is 100% natural the body does not have difficulties digesting it. As a result, there is less bloating, cramping, and gastrointestinal discomfort. The true reason we choose brown rice is because of the magic behind complex carbohydrates. The magic is their molecular structure. Complex Carbohydrates are quickly released from the stomach to the intestines. However, while they are in the stomach and the long chains of glucose are broken down into smaller chains, some smaller chains can be taken into the blood stream by the cilia cells of the stomach, thus, providing us with immediate sources of energy. Then the rest of the broken down complex carbohydrate is flushed into the intestines where it begins its slow release into the blood stream. This slow release into the blood stream will sustain blood glucose levels for up to two hours, thus eliminating the sugar crash. When ingested at night, the slow release of glucose reduces hunger and restores muscle glycogen. As long as you have a good nutritional regimen during the day, consuming complex carbohydrates at night will not become detrimental to your physique, rather it will promote muscle recovery and enhance energy levels for the following day.

Fructose:
Is an all natural form of sugar. The major difference between fructose a monosaccharide (fruit sugar) and sucrose a disaccharide (table sugar) is their molecular structure, absorption rates, and fat storage capabilities. What many do not know is that Fructose is an actual component of sucrose. Fructose is the other molecule aside from glucose that completes the disaccharide sugar that is sucrose. However, unlike sucrose, fructose does not need to be broken down. Fructose can be released into the blood without any molecular catabolism. Sucrose on the other hand must be broken down. Sucrose breaks down into two sugars glucose and fructose thus, providing double the amount of sugar. When a large amount of sugar is released into the blood stream insulin levels will rise. As insulin levels rise, the two sugars are guided into the cells for energy. However, because there is a large presence of insulin, the sugars are used up by the cells rather quickly which results in the sugar crash. When fructose is consumed alone or along with slow releasing carbohydrates, it helps to sustain blood sugar levels as fructose itself is released slowly into the blood by the small intestines. Fructose will also help with nutrient transport (specifically proteins) as the consistent levels of insulin shuttle nutrients into cells. With this mixture, an individual will experience immediate muscle replenishment and sustained energy levels for up to two hours. Fructose is a key component to PPM daytime and Nighttime’s recuperative characteristics.

Alpha Lipoic Acid:
Is an organic compound that is essential to aerobic life. ALA is soluble in both water and fat, thus making it permeable in all parts of our cells. It is often reduced to dihydrolipoic acid. Collectively, alpha lipoic acid contains antioxidant regenerative properties. ALA can regenerate the antioxidants vitamin C, E and restore their free radical scavenging capabilities. Due to its antioxidant regenerative properties cells are able to better maintain a healthy state by being protected from free radical damage. Along the lines of antioxidants, ALA increases the body’s production of glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant like vitamin C and E that helps detoxify the liver. A healthy liver is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. The liver is responsible for detoxifying the blood, glycogen storage, protein synthesis, and production of digestive aids. Additionally, ALA has been shown to facilitate cellular uptake of glucose. When we combine ALA with the complex carbohydrate brown rice which ultimately breaks down into glucose and fructose which biologically acts in the same manner as glucose, individuals will experience better nutrient uptake which leads to overall nourishment. Overall nourishment then constitutes better recovery and concludes stronger muscles with minimal fat gain.

L-glutamine:
Glutamine is the most plentiful naturally occurring non-essential amino acid in the human anatomy. Glutamine becomes essential when the body is exerting a great amount of energy. Glutamine can be found in proteins. It is biosynthesized from glutamic acid and the combining of ammonia and vitamin B6. Glutamine is the principal source of energy for enterocytes (cells lining the inside of the small intestines) which can promote intestinal health. Glutamine is also important for proper immune function. Cell replication within the immune system requires the utilization of glutamine. Yet, because glutamine is mostly found in muscles, a sufficient amount of glutamine must be ingested for the muscles to supply the immune system as well. Glutamine is also a neurotransmitter and is very important for brain function. It can directly cross the blood-brain barrier and thus provides the brain with a secondary source of fuel. Most importantly for athletes, glutamine exerts anti-catabolic effects. Glutamine stops the progress of cortisol and its catabolic properties on muscle after exercise. Thus, promoting muscle repair and growth (an anabolic effect).

Calcium:
Is an important mineral for the human body as a whole. Calcium is extremely abundant in the human body and has many roles. Its roles span from a cellular ionic messenger to a major component of our skeletal structure. Calcium plays a crucial role in cellular structures as calcium ion. The ion form moves within the cytoplasm of the cell and signals many cellular processes. Additionally, Calcium is responsible for normal heart rhythms, conduction of nerve impulses, blood clotting, and muscle contraction. It is important for individuals to understand that proper calcium intake is crucial to maintain normal calcium levels. If calcium levels drop, then certain physiological reactions will occur and can lead to serious medical complications later on. For example, when calcium intake is low it will encourage muscle cramping, reduced energy levels, and soft bones. Calcium’s most noticeable biological function is bone mineralization. For bone to be properly mineralized, a positive calcium balance must exist. Bone formation and maintenance will deteriorate if there is a negative calcium balance. This can ultimately lead to osteoporosis hence, the importance for calcium intake. Calcium supplementation is imperative to athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike. Without proper calcium intake an individual’s athletic performance will suffer along with their overall health.

Magnesium:
Is found in abundant masses in the human body. It is mostly found in bone, muscles, and soft tissue. Magnesium contains numerous metabolic roles. It is extremely important to all living cells. This mineral is an important mechanism in enzymatic activity and energy production, specifically the influence of biological phosphates such as ATP, DNA, and RNA. Magnesium plays a role in calcium and potassium uptake thus providing adequate mineralization and nutrient utilization which constitutes strong bones and muscles. Intake deficiencies of magnesium constitute hindered nerve transmissions, muscle function, muscle strength and mineral uptake. If magnesium intake is not corrected muscle spasms, muscle weakness, cramping, and irritability will occur. Additionally, magnesium is essential for arterial protection. Magnesium will protect the inside of the arterial walls from sudden blood pressure spikes. Magnesium’s role in muscle tissue and arterial walls is important to athletes as physical activity depletes the body of magnesium. Therefore, for proper muscle and nervous system repair magnesium levels must be restored.

Potassium:
Is an intracellular cation with important biochemical functions. Potassium is essential in neuron function, osmotic balance between cells and a regular heart rhythm. Potassium is crucial for chemical reactions within cells, stable blood pressure (as its role along with sodium as an electrolyte), skeletal muscle contractions, and sending of nerve impulses. Potassium is also responsible for the transport of nutrients throughout the cell‘s membranes. However, potassium’s nutrient transport capabilities seem to decrease with age, which constitutes a need for greater potassium intake. Simply put, potassium is extremely important for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and normal working individuals. Potassium deficiency can lead to uncomfortable medical conditions. Potassium deficiency symptoms include, muscle weakness, cramping, decreased reflex response, fluctuations of heartbeat, glucose intolerance, low blood pressure, among others. Therefore, in order to avoid these symptoms and to promote optimal athletic ability and maintain overall health, adequate potassium intake must occur.

Eggplant extract:
Comes from the eggplant. Studies have shown that eggplant contains positive antioxidant and cholesterol lowering effects as well as being an excellent source of vitamins B1 (Thiamin), B6 (Pyridoxine), and potassium. However, it is the work done by Dr. Rob Shore that has brought further attention to the biochemical characteristics of eggplant extract. Dr. Shore’s study has shown eggplant extract to be a positive influence in muscle rejuvenation by containing acetylcholine agonist activity. Eggplant contains an alkaloid which apparently acts on the acetylcholine receptors, thus, enabling stem cell recruitment. When you workout, you damage muscle tissue. This damaged tissue sends out chemical messages which catch the attention of new stem cells. These stem cells flow to the injured area and begin healing it by forming new muscle fibers. When a stem cell recruiter is implemented into a fitness regimen, muscle repair is enhanced which constitutes greater muscle growth, reduced soreness, and improved recovery. Combine the acetylcholine agonist activity (stem cell recruitment) along with other crucial nutrients the muscle needs to recover and grow, and you have a very powerful protein mix. Hence, Protein Power Mix.

Fiber:
Is the indigestible portion of plants and grains which moves food forward through the digestive system. The chemical components of dietary fiber consist of non-starch polysaccharides. Fiber is not broken down and absorbed as other nutrients are. There are two types of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Together they make total fiber. Insoluble fiber can not be dissolved in water while soluble fiber is dissolvable in water. Insoluble fiber adds bulk to stools and helps treat constipation, diarrhea, and symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Soluble fiber has cholesterol lowering effects as it binds to cholesterol in the small intestines and prevents it from being absorbed and released into blood serum. Fiber that is ingested through whole food sources is called dietary fiber. Fiber that is ingested through supplemental or additive means is called functional fiber. Both are effective and useful to the human body. Protein Power Mix utilizes a functional fiber named inulin. Chemically, inulin is viewed as an oligosaccharide which occurs naturally in plants and is apart of a class of fibers called fructans. Inulin’s biochemical functions are as a soluble fiber and prebiotic. The great aspect of inulin is that it has a minimal impact on blood glucose levels and increases the absorption of calcium and magnesium. Inulin is not broken down into monosaccharides in the small intestines, thus it can not be absorbed into the blood stream from the intestines and raise blood glucose levels (it is not insulemic). Therefore, the use of inulin in a supplemental form as soluble fiber will assist with proper digestive movements and promote intestinal health. In the case of its addition to protein power mix, not only will inulin perform its biochemical functions as a soluble fiber, but it will also improve the absorption of certain micronutrients (calcium and magnesium).

Bromelain:
Is a sulfur containing proteolytic enzyme found in the stem of pineapples. Bormelain has shown certain biochemical qualities that can be useful to an athlete and non-active individual. Specifically, Bromelian’s biochemical qualities consist of enzymatic and anti-inflammatory activity. Bromelain exerts positive anti-inflammatory effects by blocking pro-inflammatory metabolites, which then decrease inflammation and pain. "Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory [that] prevents soft tissue swelling, and decreases various markers of pain and inflammation.” David H. Rahm, MD. Therefore, when applied to the daily regimen of an athlete or non-active individual (specifically at night during the body’s rest and recovery state) they can experience mild anti-inflammatory effects and the beginning stages of tissue repair. The other fantastic quality Bromelain contains is as a protein enzyme. When ingested with protein, Bromelain acts as a digestive enzyme which helps break down protein molecules. A more efficiently broken down protein molecule will aid in digestion and may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Collectively, Bromelain is a great addition to PPM nighttime formula, as it will support protein digestion and combat painful inflammation. However, anyone who is allergic to pineapples should not consume PPM nighttime formula. Also, anyone taking a blood thinning medication should not consume PPM nighttime formula.
